Description: This camera has been modified as a "Full Spectrum" camera for astro imaging and daytime astrophotography. Both of its original in-body low pass filters have been replaced with an Astronomik optically polished coated clear glass. Replacement of the original low-pass filters allows the H-Alpha wavelength to pass for astro imaging of deep sky objects. The replacements also allow infrared wavelengths to pass so that external infrared filters, such as the Hoya R72, can be used for daytime infrared phorogrpahy. The camera's autofocus feature and optical viewfinder will continue to work as in the original un-modified camera. An external color correcting filter can be used for regular daytime photography. A color correcting filter is not provided with the camera. An Image Stabilizer-equipped EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens is provided with the camera body. The color of the camera body is black and is provided with its original Canon box. The Canon warranty does not apply since the camera has been opened for the modification. A 60-day warranty on the modified camera is provided.
The camera was recently purchased new by me and the modification was performed by me. The modified camera has been tested for focus and flat field. Since the original filter with the piezoelectric cleaning element is removed, the "Auto sensor cleaning" function of the camera is disabled. The "Manual sensor cleaning" function can still be used to clean the replacement filter. See additional information at these links:
